My Family.

Family is a complex term for me. It is not something that is simple or clear cut. Family to me is not just my biological family. But I guess it is best to start with that half of my family. I am the youngest of five. Three girls and my brother. Three of my four older siblings are from previous marriages. One of them I have only met once. One of them is only elevenish months older than me. One is eleven years older. Two have children, one... (posted by Casey 112 days 16 hours ago.)
In the Mirror: Finding Beauty

When I look in the mirror, I see many different things. First, there's the physical. I see a girl with too much flab here and a bit of fat there. I also see a collar bone and part of a rib. I see fat hanging and grossness abound. I do not see what I want, even though I dieted, starved, and purged to get there. I never got there. I see a short girl, not tall enough to reach the top shelf but still having to duck in low crawl... (posted by Casey 133 days 5 hours ago.)
September 11- An Eleven-Year-Olds Perspective.

On the morning of September 11th, 2001, I was sitting on a couch, watching television before my mum went to work. I was homeschooled as a child, and I am grateful for that. At the age of eleven, I watched the first tower fall, and then the second. When... (posted by Casey 156 days 21 hours ago.)
Please, Don't Be Sorry.

I hear "I'm sorry," a lot. Why? Well, because I have Fibromyalgia. And although I am a private person, some of my friends and some of my coworkers know. My supervisors, for one, know. I actually told one of them recently (the other two quit!) about why I was in pain so much. She asked me if I was alright, and I was tired of lying. I have my bad pain days. I also have my depressive days, but that's a different story. That day, at... (posted by Casey 164 days 5 hours ago.)
Going Back To School.

Three months, every year, finds me at my family home; reading, working, babysitting. But for the other nine? I enter the magical realm of academia. Going back to school is like going home. I have told my friends, time and again, that I have two homes. One is with my family and the other is on my college campus, where I live and work for those long nine months. This year, coming back to school has a very different meaning for me, a... (posted by Casey 169 days 15 hours ago.)
Three wishes.
2

When I was little, I had a single wish. I wished for it every year, but it never seemed to come true. I wished for peace and for hunger to not be an issue. In my eight year old mind that was one single, simple wish. It was something that should be easy, something that should not be so complicated. But now as a young adult, my wishes have changed. I still wish for impossibilities, but wishes that are not as... (posted by Casey 191 days 18 hours ago.)
